A Simple 3 Step Guide to Treating and Curing Scabies

As a many of you have found out, scabies can be hard to kill.

They’re a resilient bunch and it’s very hard to tell if you’ve actually killed them all or not.?

I dealt with scabies for quite a few months and experienced a ton of confusion around treatment and determining whether I had eradicated them or not.

In the end what worked for me was to combine ivermectin and permethrin in conjunction with thoroughly cleaning my environment. I also found it incredibly important to do my best to avoid other infected (or potentially infected) people and help them get treatment.

So without further ado, here are my 3 steps to curing scabies.?

Table of Contents

Step #1: Invest in some Ivermectin and/or Permethrin.

Ivermectin should be one of your go-to treatment options.?

When ingested it spreads to the skin where it is consumed by the mites and effectively kills them in their burrows.?It has a very low level of human toxicity and boasts high success rates.?

Ivermectin’s ability to spread to ALL parts of the skin is very important.?If you simply try to cure scabies with only topical applications there is a good chance you will not cover your skin thoroughly enough. If this happens?the mites will be able to move to other parts of the skin and repopulate, as well as move deeper into the skin to avoid your applications.

Ivermectin stops this risk from happening.

You have two options for obtaining Ivermectin:

Option 1#) If you were diagnosed by your doctor ask for a?prescription for Ivermectin (branded as Stromectol). It will cost about $70 for two doses.?

Option 2#) Buy it over the counter.

So you can go to your doctor, get a prescription and pick up ivermectin at the pharmacy but there’s a (cheaper) alternative. Aside from treating humans ivermectin is also used to treat animals for parasites, worms, and mange, so you can buy it online or at a local feed store. (link above, option 2#)

Because of this, you can pick up ivermectin without a prescription and for very cheap; only it is marketed for animals.

Please note that while you are using essentially the same medication that the doctor would prescribe, the specific product is sold as a treatment for animals, so if in the rare case that you have an allergic reaction to ivermectin you are on your own, liability wise.?

Also: you must be cautious when choosing which ivermectin product to buy over the counter.?You want to buy the brand without added ingredients, specifically avoiding those with additives for eradicating heartworms.?Again, member to not pick up ivermectin with added ingredients for heartworms.

Here is what I consider to be the best over the counter Ivermectin option:

Durvet Ivermectin Paste?-This is a paste that is also consumed orally like Stromectol and Noromec.?The tube comes with mark for dosing, each mark meant to treat 250lbs of weight. So, if you are 250lb, take one mark worth of the bottle. If you 150, estimate to that amount.

Here is a link to a great and very thorough guide to using Ivermectin. The author has contracted scabies multiple times while working with the homeless and has cured herself with Ivermectin every time. Her guide addresses the frequency of use and correct dosage amounts.?

IMPORTANT: Do not hold Lifewithoutscabies accountable for your application of any non-human medications. This is not medical advice. Use at your own risk! I repeat, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Although Ivermectin is very low in human toxicity (you could likely take more than the?recommended?dose) it carries with it some potential risks. Do your own research before deciding to use this treatment!

Pick up some 5% Permethrin Cream

I highly recommend you use Permethrin in addition to oral Ivermectin. Along with proper house cleaning, this is your best bet to cure yourself on the first attempt.

Currently, you cannot buy medicated 5% permethrin cream online via Amazon (you used to be able to, but not longer). The best place online to purchase 5% permethrin is eBay. You can find it listed here.

You want the 5% cream tubes that you can get from your doctor and pharmacist, or you can buy it online.?The Permethrin product I recommend is over the counter and the exact same product that the doctors will prescribe.?

Either ask your doctor about Permethrin cream or if you don’t have health insurance and are looking to pick up some Permethrin without the doctors visit, consult our post on how to buy 5% Permethrin cream over the counter.

Step #2: Remove scabies from your immediate environment

Ivermectin and Permethrin will kill off all live scabies mites and eggs on your body, but scabies can live off of your body for days and infect you later on, so you want to take care of the places you frequent.

  • Your house
  • Your car
  • Your office
  • Your clothes
  • Your pets
  • Anything else you come into contact with

If you don’t take care of these things then your initial eradication might not save you, since you could just get reinfected days later.?Some household items to clean your environment include:

Treat your clothes and environment with these items frequently and thoroughly until your infestation is resolved.?

Another option I would recommend is that you take a short vacation from your environment and treat yourself in another location. Scabies are said to be able to live roughly 4 to 14 days off of a human host. So if you can take two weeks away from home that would mean you don’t have to treat all of your stuff.

Step #3) Keep away from Scabies in your extended environment

First, get to know this list of places on this post very thoroughly. It lays out 13 places you are most likely to contract and share scabies.

Even after you’ve killed off all of the mites in your skin, in your families skin and in your environment you still have to be on the lookout.

Hopefully, you have found out where your infestation came from. If not, then you could come in contact with that person or place again and start the nightmare all over again (albeit better prepared this time), but still, you don’t want that.

In addition to where you got infected from in the first place, you have to be aware of people that YOU could have possibly infected.

Friends and family that you came in contact with or even just shared a car/room with for awhile could easily have picked up your mites. All it takes is a house mate or friend to share a towel with you and boom there is a decent chance they were infected.

So be a responsible person/friend and make sure your friends get treated. Even if you warn them though, they might not follow through or do the treatment very extensively. At this point it is out of your hands, and you owe it to yourself to keep away from them until they get their shit figured out. It sucks, but there aren’t really any other options if you want to avoid becoming reinfected.

So with these three tips, you should resolve any scabies infestation. I hope it all works out for you!

Some additional Words of Advice

Avoid scratching your skin incessantly

It buries mites and their debris deeper in the skin, making for a longer, itchier post-mite recovery period while your body works to reject all if this waste.

It can also spread the mites throughout any environment that you scratch in. When you scratch dead skin is introduced into the air, and loose mites will travel along with that dead skin.

Not only can scabies live without food for days off of your body, but with that dead skin to cling to and feed off of their survivability increases tenfold.

Avoid hot showers.

Hot showers dry out your skin and make it harder for your body to heal the damaged skin to regrow and the fight infection.

Take cold showers if you can handle it. You will itch less, your skin will thank you and your recovery will hasten. If you can’t bear cold showers, opt for lukewarm water and end your shower with a few seconds of cold to close up your pores.

Do what you can to keep your spirits up.

Your immune system and overall health will function best if you are at ease and avoid the temptation to dwell in thought all day.

Keep yourself occupied and don’t get too down on the situation.?Thinking about how shitty this condition is all day will get you stuck in a rut. Remember, your body wants your love and contentment to heal.

Go do something fun and engaging to keep yourself occupied. Just don’t spread the mites!

We’ve come to the end of the guide. I really hope all of this has helped you out. I know it’s a bit overwhelming, but take action and you’ve got this!

Good luck and I wish you the best.

  1. Thank you for sharing your insights and experiences. I never would’ve thought I would ever in a million years end up with scabies. I still haven’t been able to figure out the source as all the people I’ve come in close contact with say they haven’t ever had it. Thank you for all the great suggestions in erradicating this, I feel I have a little more knowledge to use in myarsenal. My care provider did not have much further insight or advice for me, so I’m glad to have this website as a source!

  2. Thank you so much all your posts are very informative and real …I love how you put everything together. ..greatly appreciated..

      1. Hi i got this from cleaning a home i saw the cream in their house after i started gwtting a rash so its best to not work their anymore?

  3. Angelica Fleming

Thank you very much for your information. I currently have scabies and my boyfriend and I are coming up on the one year anniversary for the initial infection. We have tried so many ways and so many times to get rid of this.. we live together, so that makes it harder… Just got another prescription for permethrin tonight so hopefully this time will be it. I am going to go above and beyond/ ridiculous status to get rid of this tomorrow when I clean everything. I am praying this will work, this is the worst situation that I have ever been faced with, but I refuse to give up and will continue trying for years if that’s what it takes… I am now 10 weeks pregnant as well…. so here’s to giving it everything that I’ve got for the next 6-7 months until this baby is born. <3
    Thanks again.

  4. My husband has had these pestilences for around 6 months. Dermatologist would not take a skin scraping, but 2 deep biopsies, instead. She refused a skin scraping, and I had to offer a name for the rash–Scabies, maybe? “Well, yeah–I mean, we can call it scabies. Yeah, it is scabies.” Wow! I feel really secure! And after her permethrin cream, which my husband could not use, I felt even more insecure. They had me to use his cream while they put him on a permethrin pill. Neither worked for either of us! She also prescribed a cream for the itch, and it works if you glob it on about every 30 minutes! It gets so you cannot sit in a chair without ending up on the floor!

We tried all of the oils and spices, but to no avail except EXTREME burning. I found Dr. Scabies, which I first ordered for my husband, because he was one big, red rash. It began working immediately for him, however very slow, and very expensive! Still, I kept him on the regiment, and began environmental cleaning the best I knew how. It has been a trial and error for me, but I am learning–still! For us, this all began back in Sept., 2015.

I then ran across a product called, Naturalsil for Scabies, and since I had used Naturasil for another condition years ago, I liked them and had confidence they would at least be a good product. I ordered it for myself while my husband would use the Dr. Scabies, and we would compare which was the best. Unfortunately, as soon as it arrived, my husband took the Naturasil and began its use, leaving me with only the week of Dr. Scabies he had left. During those days, I could see that the Naturasil appeared to work better on him than the Dr. Scabies had, though Dr. Scabies was all I had to use until we could receive another order of Naturasil. The Naturasil is about 1/2 the price of the Dr. Scabies, and I think it is a better product, and it is all made in the USA, I believe. With my order, I received the Benzarid, which has been a blessing! I would encourage anyone to get it. It really does make a difference in the mites, and that makes cleaning so much easier!

As for the Naturasil, it is good, but we have been using it for about 4-5 weeks, and I have again ordered more! I think it is simply keeping them at bay, but we cannot live like this. We cannot go around anyone, and I am worn out mopping and laundering! It is clean, bathe, salve, eat, rest, clean, launder, bathe, salve, and go to bed! Day in and day out!

I read about ivermectin on several occasions, even on some of the Natural Treatment reviews, so we decided to try it. Today we purchased the horse paste, just like the one recommended on your site, and used it. The measurement was a little tricky, but got it close enough. My husband went to work in the yard, and I continued my regimen in the house, then laid down for a rest and nap. I awoke with so much itching, and I could feel those critters ‘crawling’ on my skin! That is awful. It reminds me of walking through a cob web on a windy day, and I cannot get the web off! This is what they feel like. So, I hit the bathing water with essential oils, and it all burned so badly. Once out of the water, I saw not only new spots on my upper body, but REALLY LARGE, red spots! One is about 1 inch across, and about 6 inches long, curving sort of close to my neck! This all happened while I slept, about 2 hours after taking the ivermectin! Is this normal? What happened? I am wondering if I can put some of the paste on these spots? I really don’t know what to do! Does ANYONE have any suggestions?

I always try to spray myself down good before I do laundry, as I can always tell that I pick up some while handling those dirty clothes and linens. My sheets have been washed so much in such hot water, they are slick! If we EVER get over this, those linens will have to go!

For now, I need help. I need any experience anyone has to offer. Even good ideas may be helpful. Also, am I supposed to take another dose of ivermectin in 7 days?

I will appreciate ANY help any one can give me. Going into the 7th month from my husband’s onset is just about more than I can stand, now. I am too old to give up my life. I want to take these years and live and be with friends and living while I still can. This won’t be for many more years, so I really can’t afford to loose these months, which I am afraid can turn into years!

    Thanks for your ears, folks!

thanks, (I feel I have been targeted a TI, dont know how my roommates dont have it, I am doing internal Invec, and now got 10% Martin’s using neem oil and have basically now DE the whole house and will also ingest some, off to the beach it seems to help, feel I am getting better then WHAM infected again tenacious little evil POSz but I will win, I think maybe some prayer works also as these things are part of some evil agenda, I am not surprised if they are in chemtrails and nanobot controlled these days, moved to El salvador in 1994, never ever really had any issues, occasional scorpion, water bugs{keep an iguana around, they like under a frig} and now this, bad enough the buzzing they are putting into people’s heads, cant wait to get back and out of this sick sad doped dumbed down amerika, ya’ll in trouble I will keep at this but it is tough I heard the DE is the best this they can’t be resistant to, God Bless

      1. Oona Craig

The Evilocracy uses multiple means of torturing TIs. You know the routine: landscapers killing trees; vets killing pets; hospitals spreading MRSA; vehicle stalking; EMR sirens.
Scabies, bedbugs, brought to you by, who else, pest control front companies.
No, Dorothy, this is not Kansas anymore.
        Take Ivermectin.
        Listen to Eric Karlstrom.

  5. WOW, great information. I had scabies a year or so ago and it was horrific. It took weeks to get rid of. I woke up this morning and saw two little itchy bumps….ugh. Last year I ignored those and they spread, not ignoring this year. The sheets and blankets are already in a hot washer. Now to get them off my body and under control in the house, since a two week vacation is beyond my pay.

  6. I had scabies once when I was in elementary school and it was the probably the most traumatic experience of my childhood. After months of not knowing, itching at night until I cried and bled, I honestly think I am the germaphobe I am today from this horrible pest. And just my luck, I’ve been having a rash for awhile which I originally thought was some kind of allergy, but just a few days ago a family member that I stayed with for the month of August gave a call to let me know he had it.

    I have a question.
You said 4-14 days… you sure about that?
Every other website I read says 3-4 days. I ask because in fact I am going to go to my boyfriends house for a week, where we will clean his apartment and our stuff life crazy, but I would like to come back to my apartment next week knowing they have died without a host.

Also, is it a good idea for me to go to my boyfriends (he definitely has it too) and leave the clothes I don’t wear often (the clothes that just sit in my closet) there while I’m gone (assuming they die)?

Also, I do my all my laundry in general at his boyfriends. For my sheets, could I put the sheets in a trash bag, transport them to my boyfriends, put them immediately into the wash, rid of the old trash bag, put the clean sheets into a new trash bag and seal it up until I go back to my place?

    1. That sounds like a good plan but be careful of how you transport it, because my sister was heavily reinfected by a bag she carried. Lay down paper or plastic.

Anything you store, wash with borax 20 mule laundry detergent and high heat dry extra. DO THIS FOR YOUR WHOLE CLOSET, it’s too easy to hear stories of a forgotten item and bam, reinfection. Bag in airtight bags. Leaving unwashed clothes in storage will only let them breed, wash first!

  7. I have been treating my scabies since 10/10/16. I know I contracted my mites by trying on clothes in Italy. No one else in my group of 14 was affected in the villa we all vacationed in. I have used Ivermectin and permethrin cream.
My problem is I have tracts that are straight and look like a scratch and are red. The doctor said it was not scabies but how do you get straight scratches on your skin by your nipple and on your nipple? I know I did not scratch myself or was scratched by anything. My hands also have had areas that look almost like a paper cut but didn’t get a paper cut to my knowledge. Has anyone had tracts that looked like a scratch.

    1. E. Lynch

Yes I had them, they looked like a cat scratch but what made them different was every quarter to half inch there was a tiny red spot and that was the mite. They also present in a linear fashion. I had them on my ankles three scratches .

  8. Usama Khan

For how many days should i use premethrine cream ?

    1. E. Lynch

You should apply it from the neck down all over your body, including your penis and scrotum, make sure you put some cream under your fingernail and toenails. leave it on for at least 10 hours, then take a bath, and reapply in 7 days. MOST IMPORTANTLY, wash your clothes, bed linen, blankets, towels in hot water and then put the clothes in a hot dryer and leave it in there for an extra ten minutes.

  9. Thank you so much much for this post! Went to so many doctors and they all misdiagnosed! Eventually seen one doctor who was so convinced by my begging and knowledge of scabies that they went ahead and prescribed the permethrin cream! Feeling like I have infected people close to me, this information really builds up my hope that I can get a handle on this situation and inform my loved ones adequately! Thank you so much! Finally I can put my guilt away and help others to get better! You are a Godsent for writing this article of guide! I love you and my family loves you as well! Praying for everyone’s recovery!! Peace and blessings!

  10. Neale Underwood

Has anyone any knowledge of other jolly scratch problems that were similar but not scabies (My young lady dr. diagnosed scabies) . Are there not similar itches of which Jolly scratch is one
Maybe I was misdiagnosed because I have had an itch on my scalp that when scratched is a scab of dry skin for about 2 years. A few weeks ago I started to itch on my scrotum like a pinprick which was soothed by squeezing on the skin , as time went on it was on inside of left leg above the knee, buttocks , inside/ right leg, upper back, there are tiny sores that I can see on the r/leg from scratching but no other red marks or anything or other signs .

  11. miCHelle

I really wish they didn’t make me feel like such complete shit. I can’t see any of the people I care about and the whole damn thingi me feel like I want to die. I am really depressed over it.

  12. Thanks for this website! It gave me the confidence to go forward with Ivermectin treatment in addition to what I’ve already been doing. Something I haven’t seen many people write about but it helped me is I purchased a jeweler’s loop off of Amazon for less than $12. It magnifies as high as 120X. It’s a lot like a handheld microscope. Part of the issue with this condition is it is so difficult to know if you are having any effect short of the rashes and the itching. The loop and a roll of tape gives you daily feedback letting you know if you have extra waste products from the mites on your skin and sometimes you’ll actually catch one of the mites. Most of the time it was just seeing the track marks, damage, and waste they leave behind.

My story is I got them twice in a span of two months. Likely I never eradicated them properly to begin with. The first time like others I had no idea what it was. We had completed 3 weeks of travelling visiting London, taking a cruise back to New York and staying in a dodgy NYC hotel. I’m not sure how I got them but it had to be one of those 3 locales. The itch started a few weeks after returning from my trip. The doctor diagnosed Hot tub Folliculitus and gave me antibiotics. The second doctor from an ER clinic diagnosed scabies and gave me a prescription of one tube of Permethrin and no instructions. The lotion worked and the insane itch disappeared for three days and then it was back. And on and on… you know the story. The mistakes I made were similar to the Admin. I tried tons of natural stuff (tea tree, turmeric, neem, garlic, etc) before getting help. We didn’t treat everyone in the house. I didn’t do the thorough daily laundering needed for the bedding. So many mistakes, money, and time wasted. I’d like to know how we get the word out to the medical community so people can get the treatment and correct instructions needed to treat this condition?

So my protocol as of late that has me thinking I’ve got this won:

    1. After waking I put blankets/sheets in dryer for 40 minutes a cycle. I wash clothes like I normally and I don’t do a bunch of extra laundry I do the heat drying on anything that touches my skin. When I do laundry I add Kleen Free to the wash cycle.
    2. Sprayed Permethrin on all soft furnishings and rugs in my house – purchased Martin’s 10% . Also put dust mite covers on mattresses and pillows
    3. Wipe my keyboard, desk and mouse with alcohol
    4. Vacuum a little more often and empty the container in the outside bin. I don’t go crazy with the vacuuming the way some people do
    5. I’ve used the following things that I think have had an effect but haven’t totally eradicated it: 5% Permethrin mix that I made myself, sulphur cream for 3 days in a row that I mixed myself, Lice shampoo, and now I’ve added Ivermectin Horse Paste to the mix. I observed mite waste on my face with my tape and jeweler’s loop so I decided to add shampooing with the lice product to my routine.
    6. For the itching I’ve used a blow dryer which provides a great deal of relief. I’m concerned that it has taken a toll on my skin and maybe even drives the mites deeper into the skin. Does anyone know?
    7. My husband and roommate are now on board and treat themselves on the same schedule as me. They are both asymptomatic for itching but we’ve seen waste product and tracks on their skin!
    8. After a treatment I use the jeweler’s loop to see if I find any new waste products or mites on my skin.

    My product List:

Durvet Ivermectin Paste 1.87% purchased at a local Horse Saddlery store
Durvet Nustock Sulphur Ointment 12 oz , 73% sulphur off Amazon
Martin’s 10% Permethrin purchased off Amazon
Olive Oil and Goldbond’s Lotion for mixing purchased from local grocery
    Kleen Free Concentrate off Amazon
    Jeweler’s Loop off Amazon

No I don’t have any stock in Amazon. It’s just some of these products are hard to get without mail order.

All of the above chemicals have to be mixed, diluted, or measured out according to your unique weight and needs. The Permethrin has to be reduced to 5% and you do that by mixing 1/2 and 1/2 with lotion or oil. The Sulphur has to be reduced down to 10% to use it. I do 3.5 tablespoons of lotion to one tablespoon of the sulphur paste. The Ivermectin I tested on my skin before ever ingesting in case I got a reaction. I also gave myself a tiny fraction of a dose with food before giving myself a full treatment. Now I just give myself enough for 250lbs (more than I weigh) but it seems quite safe and I haven’t had any adverse effects. Be careful with the Kleen Free if you opt to use it. It is concentrated and is touted as really safe. You need to dilute it per instructions on the bottle. I took a small spray bottle with me on a trip recently that I now use to spray any hotel beds and pillows as well as my luggage. That dilution was at 50% so it was super strong. I decided to spray one of my burrows on my leg and created a gaping hole in my skin. It doesn’t normally do that if you use the correct dilution or use it in a bath. Learning Curve! Don’t do that.

Good luck and godspeed to everyone out there suffering.

    1. Hi I used Kleen Green ( is that what you referred to as Kleen Free) in bath water and when I got out I also had a burrow hole which seemed to go down to my flesh.. it was huge! It seems to soften scabs. Have had mits for a year now and have just taken plain Ivermectin orally but to no avail. I think my symptoms have returned with a vengeance.. so depressing

  13. I am fighting the good fight… but here is the kicker… I got this from a hotel. So someone may have vacated their environment while fighting their own battle, only to leave behind a nice surprise for the next guest. Please people, remember that hotels do not clean that thoroughly between guests. These are not bedbugs – you cannot check for them. Stay out of places where you can transmit this bug to others while you treat. Clean your own home as to not become re-infected. As tempting as it is to move to a hotel while you treat, remember you may pass this devil to the next guest.

its just me and my dog and i caught it from him and he caught it from Petco i’m so upset its set me back already $600 and i can’t make my mortgage payment now and its still going on. I just started neem treatments and i’m turning into a chemist it seems i’ve tried the Permethrin thats not working its back after two treatments so and i just did the last treatment three days ago and its back and worse now so i’m trying the cream the dog cleared up good with borax and peroxide but he now has a rash on his belly so i’m going to put some neem oil with water on him tonight and do my blankets that i just washed the other night at the laundrymat and spent $30 on in my dryer for 40 min and its 6:10am so that means i’m not going to be for another two hours but thats ok. My life is over anyway as i knew it. I can’t go around any of my friends and i’m still isolating myself cause i don’t want anyone else to have to go through this like i did. I’m calling the health dept on Petco, Monday cause they won’t help me so thats what they get and i’m going to tackle how to handle this better cause me quarantining my self in my office for two weeks obviously didn’t work and my bedroom well i haven’t been sleeping in my beautiful king size beautyrest pillow top bed in two weeks but now i’m on the couch and i’m staying there no matter what. I am spraying with Diatomaceous Earth and bought a puffer so that should kill whats on the furniture and the rugs and on the walls i do that and leave the house. Its supposed to last up to 6 mths so. I’m finding conflicting information for all treatments and believing only people that have been through it and using their results to follow. I’m in this for the long haul i can already tell that but it is what it is. This is what happens when people don’t care and just spread this to other people. My dogs getting depressed and i can’t blame him. He got loose yesterday and i couldn’t even get mad cause poor thing has been locked up in a pen for two weeks. More to come Priscilla

    1. Abigale

Oooh Priscilla… sorry to hear. 7mths ago I came down with this scourge & thought it was done after 2 prem treatments & super hot clothes dryer constantly on sheets etc plus isolation precautions. But here I am again. Take heart! We beat them & they were gone but I inadvertantly stepped into the original contaminated person’s home…

My routine, like yours, was that I quarantined myself to the couch also. Kept clothing & anything that was on me isolated to a corner bag. Showered daily with Selsun Blue & Sulfur soap from Amazon. Sulfur lotion between showers. Hot dryer on used bed sheets & changed/rotated them out daily. Sprayed Nix 0.5 bedbug stuff onto couch & surrounding carpet/floor areas. Graduated to Martins 10% cut to fabric strength in a spray bottle. One of the Martins brand on Amazon supposedly has no petro distillate. The comments on it by ppl on Amazon helped me alot with it. (Sprayed & covered seat & floors in car etc too). Started DH on Prem. Same isolation spot for disrobing into a “dirty” bag to be washed later. Simple clothes in another bag that were “clean”.

He did great. I, on the other hand, was eaten alive! He’s just gottta gr8 immune system. ER doc said mine was worse case she’d ever seen…

Well, we thought it had come from a hotel we’d stayed a wk at apx 3 or 4wks earlier. But, the Dr said that the next time I was exposed to this thing, my body would recognize it & flare up within 12-24 hrs.

      Boy was she right!

It evidently wasnt from the hotel… (although both dr & pharmacist assured us we could indeed be infected through contaminated sheets.)

Seems the culprit was this senario:

The week or 12 days or so before I came down with them the *first* time I had housesit for a friend with a sick dog that needed “allergy” meds daily. I was there over a week… then broke out.

Three days ago I took care of the same dog about 8 hours. I laid on the couch like the last time — & Bam! There they are!

I honestly do *NOT* blame the dog! They are as innocent in this senario as children bc they don’t know & they certainly can’t help it!

Now some Vets say we can’t get dog mites – but yes we can!

We can get eat up by bird mites so why not dog mites?

And btw – dogs can get human scabies from us!

Now the problem is that it can create a reinfection loop. For all I know the owners may have had *human* scabies & so the dog harbors a few mites & bc he sleeps on the couch alot — he’s an innocent vector for reinfection like children coming from infected playmates house’s or a school outbreak can be.

I say “harbors” bc dogs are not the natural host for human scabies. Like we are not the natural host for dog scabies.

Looking at an “example senario”, lets say we have a mite problem in a house where theres ppl, a dog, & a birdcage of canaries next to the couch.

Neither dog nor human are the natural “host” for bird mites — but they can get on the couch, then get on us & the dog that gets near the couch or cage, feed on both of us & then get back onto each of us in a “loop” as we are on or near the couch & cage — while they are “finding” their way back to the natural host — the canaries next to the couch. We keep getting eat up by something & treat ourselves (& possibly treat the dog thinking its fleas or something) but never treat the birds which are the source; or the **couch** which serves as a means to get on & eat alittle on both the dog & us!

      So u see what I mean…

In my case whether its the humans or the dog that had something first, either way it wasn’t treated correctly & the only thing I can come to is that the couch that the dog sleeps occasionally on is the common denominator & theres a “loop” cycle happening there somehow. (Seems I’ve read that some people can be carriers & not know it.) Well, whether human or dog – I’ve told him now that there’s some kind’a mite problem & I’m re-treating for a scabies type situation again with all the classic signs. Burrows & red inflammation & all! I don’t care if it’s a dog or human variety – I want those evil creatures eradicated in a nuclear way! And I’m sure you do too Priscilla …

So I’m doing the same routine…

One sleeping spot. Homemade Martins Prem Cream this time with no petroleum distillates half/half with lotion & leave on at least 12 hrs. (but this time we’ll do it 3 times over!!) Selsun Blue Shampoo & Sulfur Soap & Sulfur lotion between 7 day treatments. (Btw Nu-Stock Sulfur Cream may do your puppies belly better than neem but he’d have to maybe wear a cone so he doesn’t lick it off – plus you can dilute it into a sulfur lotion for you too!) An isolation spot to undress with a plastic bag lined drum for each dirty clothes & rotating sheets thru a super hot cycle. The dirty clothes get bagged & left to sit until I can get to them! I concentrate on our treatment, our sitting area & our sheets & pillows in a *daily* hot cycle; so I try to leave the dirty clothes bagged up so whatevers there with them will hopefully DIE in about 14 days! So as u can imagine besides the simplest of work clothes we can get away with, we are basically down to tees & sweats! And oh yes – he keeps to himself & sprays his cubicle seat & carpet down daily before leaving work. Wiping with citrus Lysol wipes as he goes thru the day. He makes it a point though *not* to leave his cubicle except for bathroom breaks. (And those Lysol wipes are utilized in there too if need be! Plus we carry around a tiny spray bottle of Martins too for car seats toilet seats, etc… I know right?)

Oh… & we dont sit anywhere except the designated chairs to watch TV which are also sheet covered and cycled through. Couch cushions have Paintets Plastic & pillows are bagged.

I spray those chairs (& car seats) down with Martins 10% mixed to clothing percentage.

Thats basically taking 1oz of Martins to about 16ozs water in a spray bottle. Theres plenty of info out there on how to dilute martins premethrin for fabrics.

And oh yeah… **We are also probably going to bite the bullet & take the ivermectin paste also.**

There’s a site called maximpulse that has a *WEALTH* of DIY info on the use of Martins & Ivermectin & *most wonderfully*, info on the Australian Skin Program for Scabies & how to do it yourself.

I could not get a Dr to prescribe Ivermectin, so I guess its up to me…

Priscilla, the best advice I can give on DIY Ivermectin is: research the subject, watch videos on it & DO NOT GET THE ONE WITH HEARTWORM MED IN IT. Just the plain paste only. Read comments on Amazon. I think someone here mentioned Duravet brand?

Read ingredients bc if you do ivermectin, you want the plain paste. Maximpulse site talks about it. That site is like this one – telling what worked for them.

Personally I don’t think the natural remedies eradicate them entirely Priscilla & I don’t want to give them even a chance! So I went the conventional route of treatment & combined it with the natural Sulfurs. Thats just my personal choice & thats what worked for me the first time. But this time I’m so desperate to be sure their out of my system entirely that I’m going to do the Ivermec protocol like the Aussie one.

Oh! There is a mail order pharmacy in India called All Day Chemist that sells the Elimite Prem Cream & also the Ivermectin pills. There’s a lot of info out there on dosing correctly the pill form if you choose that one.

I’ve never heard anything bad about All Day Chemust. They seem legit. My DH is from India and trusts Dr. Reddy’s brand stuff. But idk anything about that one. Again — research.

The one thing I know 4sure is use a store bought Visa Gift Card not your regular Visa. Thats just a precaution with any online pharmacy but especially in certain countries.

And remember Priscilla, treat your furbabies so you don’t loop reinfect eachother. But:

**IVERMECTIN CAN BE FATAL TO CERTAIN BREEDS OF DOGS**

SO BE SURE TO RESEARCH IT!!

Not yelling at u dear but ppl have a tendancy to just skim info & comments & thats a *SERIOUS* point they should see!! Collies & such I think I’ve heard about it affecting…

I know I’ll probably take some heat here for saying we can get mites from our pets – but if you’ve ever lived with birds as pets you probably learned the hard (& itchy way!) that it’s not that we catch them & are their host; but we can catch them & get eaten up & we can keep reinfecting eachother until we *all* get treated if its a general mite situation

**& plus get the environment under control as our dear site owner here has said!**

And as I said, I coukd care less what mite it is, I want them off me & my loved ones & that includes my so loved pets!!

Speaking of other furbabies, I believe I’ve read that

**premethrin isn’t usable for cats & some other pets?**

So again, *again* — ppl should research that point.

Well okay Priscilla. I’ve worn your eyes out reading this reply I’m sure; but you sounded like you could use some encouragement.

Don’t give up! You’ll beat it!!

      And 4sure don’t isolate yourself. I know… we’ve all been there & know what it feels like…

Take your furbaby out for a walk daily at least. Sounds like he could use it — & I know it’d be good for the both of you! πŸ™‚

      Ttul –
      Abigale

Ps – I found a few dealers of Eurax Cream on Ebay! (I think they’re all in the UK?) Ppl use it between Prem Cream treatments. Get the 100 gram tubes if you can. Seemed like a better deal than the 30 gram ones. πŸ˜‰

How do i treat my dogs??? What a nightmare

  15. Priscilla Loerwald

please help me…i’m a single 52 woman barely surviving on disability of a little over $700 with rent now being $600,,,I took on 2 dogs from dying friends, one large & one small…went thru a hurricane & have been to food donation center to get by, had to go to Petco with coupon for free exam & free SPCA proceedor with the large dog….now have the mites so badly, thought it was bed bugs so I got help, used 6 foggers in 1 bdrm townhome & encased bed/boxsprings including bedbug powder inside them, washed all clothes, ran out of every penny to my name before finishing drying of only 24 mins…have 2 loads of wet towels in trunk of car for 3 days now…..I even sprayed down (drowned) anything & everything including me & the dogs with Hot Shot BedBug spray over & over again….mites are still eating us up &crawling all over us….my face & arms look like I’m an extra in the Walking dead…my pets cry & jump around or lay so still U know something is terriblly wrong. I have 1 friend in the entire world able to help because they had an Amazon gift card & i received the 32oz Permethrin 10% , 2 bars of SAL3 soap, one 2oz jar of sulphur cream, a little bit of HotShot spray left….there’s no more help I can get from anyone else, and I have no more money . Please help me, help me save my poor babies the dogs, tell me what to do, I thought this would be quick & easy, & its a nightmare, omg I’m crying right along with these babies because I can’t financially handle this, let alone how guilty I feel for these dogs & the situation. My face & skin burns so bad, the dogs are shedding from scratching , there are times when I’m pulling mites off of my eyelashes & other times from my mouth when my draining sinus carries them down into the nasal passage to my toungue….I hate bugs & this is like a SciFi movie I can’t get away from. the bugs even went into my food, & were inside some refrigerated items too.

  16. I?m breastfeeding my 10-month old. I?m guessing Ivermectin is not such a good idea as my baby might suffer some side effects. Any alternative but effective solutions? Please help. I?m afraid she might be affected as she sleeps on my bed often. So does my 4 year old! Anything for kids?!

Ivermectin horse paste solved my scabies problem after 7x months of essential oils, permethrin and every other known treatment. Thousands of dollars I could have saved on IDIOT doctors (x5) who are ignorant, naive…..arrogant bunch of uneducated MORONS! Tell those doctors to go fuk-off and get an education! Just apply the paste topically and take it orally 1.5x specified dose. 5x days…. BYE BYE EVIL SCABIES. CASE CLOSED!

    1. 1.5x over 5 days? I have the paste already and I am 185 lb my daughter is 275 and my other daughter is 69lb. I want to treat and get out of our house but we have nowhere else to go so we have to figure it out here at home.

USE KEWELL !!! My whole family was infested by these little f*ckers called scabies and I went to the doctors and got diagnosed with this and they turned and and prescribed me Kewell and it wound up working for all of use the first time using this remedy … It takes a couple of days of applying this to your body initially BUT IT TOTALLY TOTALLY WORKS WITHOUT A DOUBT .. But please don’t forget to wash all your bedding and dirty clothes and also sweatshirts and jackets that you have recently came in contact with .. And I promise you it will work . GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY

      Kewell? Googled it, found nothing.

  19. Thank you for making this site, it has been so helpful. I recently got the Durvet ivermectin I ordered from Amazon and it works wonderfully but I didn’t put enough attention to cleaning my environment so about 2 days after my first dose the infestation seemed to return. I’m trying again including a home made permethrin 5% cream (1 part Martin’s 10% permethrin and 1 part lotion, measure out by weight not volume – using a kitchen scale) and removing anything from my environment that I don’t absolutely need so I can keep clean the items I do. Hoping for the best, this has been a nightmare. Thank you so much for making this site!

Look at all the people you have helped, you should be proud, and I thank you

  21. You helped so many, after reading this I used, dog flea shampoo, I thinned it out as I was using and gave my body a wash, what a relief. Spayed my bed pillows, dog beds and a chair I used. Just got back from vacation so House is not infested yet. Bedding is changed, a touch of dip mixed in with sheets. I guess I have a good start. Tomorrow I will fill a water tank put dip in and all dog beds, rugs, etc go in, then washed. Hope I can knock this out before it gets into my house to bad. Thanks again you have help a lot of people.

  22. Hi,

I have a question. I have been treating myself extensively with ivermectin orally as well as keeping my environment super clean and doing ALL of the necessary cleaning, ointments, treatments, etc. I still have burrows on me but can’t find any mites. How long do the burrows take to go away? Or is it not totally gone?

Thanks for all your advice- I really appreciate it!!

  23. I am glad to have run acriss this site. In not sure where this came from but it is now affecting me and both of my daughters. My 8 year old has a rash but my 17 year old and I don’t. Just bumps and scratches. I can feel them moving around under my skin. We were treated with permethrin and given littke instruction. When I realized it did not work I started reading and reading and reading and learned that our environment had to be treated and our dog and car. I have literally tried everything. I was just given Ivermectin and more permethrin by my doctor and I stocked up on the horse paste for after the rifikks run out. My daughters have a dermatology appointment this coming Wednesday. I am hoping that the Derm gives them the same. The Ivermectin made me feel high as hell for about an hour. Scared me to death but went away. At this point I am willing to try anything. I am a single mom and I have spent literally all of my money on all of these treatments. I work in home health and my job is demanding that I work even though I am so against it because I didn’t touch anybody and I caught it. They want me to go into this little old lady’s house and clean and touch everything. Also my daughter’s school is threatening to turn me into Child Protective Services because I kept her out for multiple days trying to get rid of this because I didn’t want her to pass it to her classmates or friends. Any advice anyone has I would be glad to hear it. This is by far the most difficult thing we have ever had to go through in our lives and it’s only been about a month or two so I couldn’t imagine having to deal with this for years and I refuse to.
